 AUSTIN AMERICAN  STATESMAN :
“New Green Mesquite up to  par, A new Green Mesquite  combines good food, warm  service and “live music“  …without exception, the  barbecue was lean, yet tender  and flavorful..."

AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN September 16, 2004
Green Mesquite: 1400 Barton Springs Road 479-0485
11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays.

Its official name says it all: The Green Mesquite Barbeque & More.
The barbecue part covers the smoky gamut from tender brisket to moist chicken, from spicy sausage to flavorful pork ribs. The "more" brings in fare beyond the traditional barbecue fire, such as tacos, chef salad, chicken fried steak, catfish and po-boys.
AUSTIN CHRONICLE
One of Austin's favorite barbeque dives - it may
look seedy but the food is exceptional.
Bluegrass on the patio, too - pick, pig, and grin.

TEXAS MONTHLY :…The namesake special plate combines brisket, ribs, and sausage with a choice of two sides…a tasty bargain.
AUSTIN’S FAVORITE PLACES :
“a friendly hole in the wall, good barbecue”

PARENTING IN THE 90’s :...mosey on over to The Green Mesquite Barbecue& More---you won’t be disappointed ! …the meat was so tender it literally fell off the bone. …You can get brisket, ribs, sausage, ham, chicken, turkey, catfish, baked potatoes, French fries, BBQ tacos, burgers, veggie burgers, chef salad, & sandwiches...they have a children’s menu. The Green Mesquite at Barton Springs includes a large courtyard with rows of green picnic tables and a place in front for live bands. It provides a great way...to listen to live music. Lunch specials range from $5 to $8.
TEXAS MONTHLY : Austin in the summertime: running, biking around Town Lake, a refreshing plunge into Barton Springs, and a stop for barbecue, beer and live music-paradise some call it. Take a seat indoors or out in the beer garden and get your fill of sausage, brisket, and ribs with beans, slaw, onion rings, and other fixins’…
AUSTIN CHRONICLE:…Many’s the time we’ve staggered out of  here after one-too-many rounds of G.M.’s all-you-can-eat special. Terrific thick sauce, good meats, and fine side dishes, especially that marvelously tangy coleslaw (how did they get our grandmother’s  recipe?). We prefer to eat outside in the quiet beer garden-unless some local band is raving it up-and we prefer to eat a lot.
