Larry Hovis Remembered, by Tom Davis.
Larry Hovis, who passed away a few years ago, was my brother. He will always be remembered by most people for his TV role as Sgt. Carter on Hogans Heroes. I remember him as an older brother who never finished college, but ended up teaching at one. These pages are mine and others memories of him. Larry spent his last ten years teaching at Texas State University in San Marcos. He often told me it was the best job he ever had. As time passes I will add stories about his time in hollywood and my visits with him. An example of his character was when the movie "Auto Focus" came out about Bob Crane. Larry King, Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight and the other gossip celebrity shows called Larry to try to covince him and the other actors to talk about their friend, Bob Crane, whom played Col. Hogan. Larry called all of the old Hogan's Heroes (actors) to get their reaction and as as a group they refused to talk about Bob Crane unless the gossip shows agreed to let them read a letter read on their programs that basically said "Bob was our friend, and since he is gone we will only speak about our good memories of him." Larry and the other actors were not willing to tell scandalous Bob Crane stories. The gossip shows were not interested, of course.
